The structure is designed to retain debris flows of 25,000 m3, including 12 tonne boulders moving at 5 m/s. The mass concrete structure is 16 m high x 34 m long and with a 12 m wide central passage furnished with a steel grillage.

GEA was responsible for the design of the primary barrier using a novel plastic strain energy approach. Prime consultant: Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd.
