Capilano Energy Recovery Facility and Break Head Tank
North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
As part of Metro Vancouver’s Seymour-Capilano Project, water will be pumped from Capilano Reservoir to the Seymour Filtration Plant and then return through a second tunnel to the head of the Capilano Mains system. A break head tank establishes atmospheric conditions at this point and a 1.5 to 1.8 MW turbine will recover energy from the approximately 30m of head available.
GEA was responsible for detailed structural and civil design of the break head tank, machine hall buildings and the emergency overflow facility; design of the pressure piping. In association with Knight Piésold Ltd.
