Kitasoo Hydroelectric Project
British Columbia, Canada
This small facility (1.1 MW), serving a first nations community on BC’s central coast, utilises the natural impoundment of a glacial tarn some 350 m above sea level. A steel penstock carries water down to the powerhouse at the sea-shore, driving a single Pelton unit. The facility replaces an existing 750 kW installation.
GEA was responsible for preliminary and detailed design and construction supervision of the weir extension, new penstock and powerhouse. Overall engineering by Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd.
