Ah'ta'apq Creek Hydroelectric Project
British Columbia, Canada
Ah’ta’apq Creek is a run-of-river hydropower facility composing of a weir, an intake, a conveyance penstock, and a timber powerhouse building. Inside the powerhouse there is a single axis Pelton turbine , with a rated capacity of 350kW and switchgear located inside; and a 2.2 km long 5kV transmission line.
The project aims to displace most of the diesel power with renewable hydroelectric energy. The facility generates up to 350kW of energy and can displace over 90% of the diesel consumption in the winter, and over 70% annually.
GEA’s responsibilities included the design of an intake diverting power flows into penstock, a tributary intake that feeds water to the headpond, and the design of the penstock, powerhouse, and supporting equipment.
